Brandi Glanville's Decision on Pubic Liposuction: Insights and Considerations
Brandi Glanville, renowned for her candid and engaging nature, has never shied away from discussing topics ranging from sex and drugs to plastic surgery. Her journey through various cosmetic procedures, including Botox, fillers, breast augmentation, and vaginal rejuvenation, is well-documented. Initially, she was against liposuction, famously stating she "didn't believe in it." However, her stance has evolved recently.
In a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live, the former star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills revealed her change of heart. "I decided to undergo a small amount of laser liposuction on my fupa because people kept asking if I was pregnant," she shared with host Andy Cohen. "I thought, why not treat myself? So, here I am, wearing a garment that makes breathing a bit challenging, but it's all worth it," she added.
While the pubic area might seem an unusual target for liposuction, Dr. Johnny Franco, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Austin, Texas, explains that it is more common than one might think. "With the rise in fashion trends favoring leggings and other close-fitting attire, people have become increasingly aware of this area. We often perform liposuction here in conjunction with the abdomen to ensure a smooth and continuous contour," he notes. However, Dr. Franco admits he is somewhat puzzled by Glanville's specific choice.
"It's unclear how liposuctioning the 'fupa' area would address concerns about looking pregnant. This ambiguity highlights the need for both doctors and patients to be cautious when using terms that can vary in meaning across individuals," he cautions.
Dr. George Bitar, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Fairfax, Virginia, further elaborates on the suitability of pubic liposuction. "Not everyone is a good candidate for this procedure. Ideally, the ideal candidate has excess fat solely in the pubic area and possesses tight skin and muscles. If the skin and muscles are loose, removing fat could lead to even looser skin, which is less desirable," he explains. Dr. Bitar also highlights that laser liposuction is particularly beneficial for this area due to its skin-tightening effects and reduced bruising and swelling.
He emphasizes the importance of ensuring that the patient does not need lower abdominal liposuction. "Focusing solely on the pubic area while ignoring the lower abdomen, if there is excess fat there, could result in an uneven appearance," he warns.
Dr. Franco mentions that it is more typical to perform liposuction on the entire abdomen along with the pubic area. However, focusing only on the latter results in a quicker recovery; most patients can resume work within a few days. The cost typically ranges around $5,500, though it might be lower if only one specific spot is targeted, as this can be done without general anesthesia. Although Glanville did not specify when she underwent the procedure, Dr. Franco estimates that it takes about three months for all swelling to subside and the skin to fully contract. Given Brandi's inclination to share her experiences, we can expect to see the final results on her Instagram soon.
